The Benefits Of Wardrobe Management For Better Productivity.

Looking for something

good to wear but it always seems to cut into your breakfast time? It's likely that, like millions of women out there, you have an overflowing closet. It gets offsetting that it sets your day off on the wrong foot as you get overwhelmed by choosing what to wear. This article offers you the benefits of managing your clothes by producing an organized closet so that you can focus on your personal and professional achievements and increase your life and work productivity. Did you know that a 2011 study conducted by researchers at the Princeton University Neuroscience Institute discovered that clutter can have an impact on how people focus on a task – particularly making it more difficult? Yes! You cannot spot anything of value or have focus with unorganized items fighting for your attention in your closet.

The first solution for clothes management for better productivity is understanding and identifying your professional image intentionality which can be achieved by using our S.M.A.R.T tool (which was talked about in the How Clothes Can Make A Communicator) to establish a system so that fashion won't get in the way of your workweek.

According to the Pareto principle, which applies to fashion as well, we wear 20% of our clothes, 80% of the time, and the 80% proportion is hardly ever worn.  For wardrobe strategy, I find it useful for you as an upper-level professional to remove obsolete pieces from your wardrobe and keep those few items that add value to your style and fit and suit your figure, are seasonal, classic, and are of good quality.

Remember that the pieces in your closet should look alike, like family members and a couple of distant cousins (those would be the special occasion pieces). Also, ensure the items go with as many other pieces as possible giving you new different combos to try just like my client after a wardrobe revamp.

I was more willing to try out new combinations instead of always wearing the same top with the same bottom. The fashion family member tips were extremely helpful to me.

With that said, here are ways that better wardrobe management can benefit your work-life productivity.

  1. It saves you time. When your closet is cluttered, you have to spend time finding the right clothes to wear that might require ironing, mending, or even steaming which consumes more time. With your clothes well ordered and cared for, you will save your precious time by easily selecting an outfit.

  2. It gives you focus:  When the inside of your closet has more in common with a chaotic sale after the mad rush than a Sak’s fifth ave display, it is a rather daunting task to focus on what is wearable. Sorting out will enable you to keep less stuff in the same space making it easier to locate pieces that can be put together for a great outfit hence better and more effective results.

  3. You start your day off with peace of mind: Besides saving time, having an organized closet sets you up for success each day! Just thinking of your messy drawers is probably enough to send you into a tailspin. Imagine how calm and satisfied you would feel when you open the door of your closet, your gaze meeting well-arranged and sorted clothes? Calming, right?

  4. You manage your clothes: Having control over your clothes, shoes, and accessories can bring very real and measurable benefits to your quality of life like making decisions faster and easier. With your eyes and mind faced with order and organization, you can easily pick an outfit.

  5. It Increases confidence:  According to INC research, clothes change the way you perform. Have you ever noticed how you feel after you clean up? Suddenly, special pieces stand out as they are not hidden by a mess. Organized closets on a psychological level, draw positive energy into your life by decluttering and leaving beautiful and usable things that you love.

6. It saves you money: When everything is visible and accessible, it is more easily inventoried for use and avoids double purchases. Managing your clothes could save you money by prolonging their shelf life.

7. Creates an easy way to identify outfits to wear: After decluttering obsolete pieces, you will instantly see what you have and need to create your outfits. This works so well for me that I can create an outfit by just thinking about it and visualizing what I have. It is easier for you to remember what hangs in your closet when you have less.

8. Improves dressing: With an untidy closet, you probably tend to pick your clothes from the top of the pile or the front of the drawer ending up wearing the same things over and over. But once you clear out the wrong stuff, like the clothes that don't fit, you are left with the right pieces.

From personal experience and from what I gather from clients, the less choice you have, the more benefits you get. You have control over your clothes and your day in general. You can make decisions easily while being adventurous as you create many different outfits from similar pieces leaving you with a unique sense of fashion style.
