Consistency vs Relevancy Self-Branding

what happened In our last special episode..

On October 4, 2023 at 7 PM EST, Mikara Reid hosted What's Your MIIEN! ? The Conversation Series on Instagram Live. In conversation with her that night was brand expert, Talyn Rahman-Figueroa of Boss Diplomat Branding where Mikara decided to conduct one of her exercises in the book, What’s Your MIIEN! ? in chapter 1, that is focused around ‘Mission’. One of the many sections of chapter 1, you could find exercises to help you start your journey on seeing if your wardrobe aligns with your current lifestyle. Section 2 specifically zeros in on knowing your calendar activities ratio in comparison of what clothes you have in your closet (bka clothing mix at MIIEN Consultancy). Before Talyn started to participate in this exercise, Mikara Reid read a passage of What’s Your MIIEN! ? Discover Your Fashion Identity, so Talyn could get a better understanding before identifying her day-to-day duties:

Take a look at your calendar activities in our next exercise. Use your finished chart to determine the percentage of total time you spend in each category of activities, then create a pie graph to give you a visual picture of your personal fashion system.

Section II: Calendar Activities

  • What industry are you in?

  • What’s your profession in the industry?

  • How much movement or lifting do you do in a day?

  • Do you work long hours straight through? Or do you work in intervals of 3 to 4 hours, take a break, and then come back to work?

Categories

As time is a limited resource we can never truly own, we tend to try to make the best of every hour. On this note, most people have four main areas in which they spend their time.

  1. Family time: This is the time spent getting to know your family better, cooking, mothering/fathering your children, and visiting relatives.

  2. Professional time: This is the time spent working or networking. It could be work as a full-time employee or part-timer; volunteer work; side gigs; and conventions. It’s the time spent with colleagues.

  3. Social time: This is the time spent trying to build relationships outside of our professional circle. This set time coaxes people to be friends, take part in cultural activities, be friendly neighbors, and attend church or other religious activities.

  4. Me time: This is the time spent alone doing what we love: facials, yoga, exercise, sleeping, sewing, crocheting, or golfing.

As we continue to consume more digital content and media, people tend to use words for SEO and marketing purpose for searchability. But what do these two women mean when they say branding? Talyn works more so on the business/marketing aspect of branding in contrast Mikara works on people’s individuality of their physical attributions. The two had a brief discussion on their approaches, while Talyn emphasis on consistency for branding, Mikara implies relevancy to a person’s lifestyle and personal appearance as priority for her area of self-branding. Which approach are you currently doing now and why?
